The National Open University of Nigeria has presented degree certificates to six inmates of the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kuje, Abuja.
“What we have reoccurring since the #EndSars protests of October 2020, have been a mass of people attacking our facilities from outside and setting the inmates free.”
An official said the pageant was one of a series of events at the ceremony to mark the International Women’s Day earlier this month.
The Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) has confirmed bandits attacked the Jos Correctional Centre, revealing how the raid occurred on Sunday.
Witnesses say the bandits fired sporadically around the prison premises located along Joseph Gomwalk road, opposite police headquarters.
The NCoS had experienced series of jail attacks at different custodial centres across the country in recent times.
“You are to show no mercy on armed invaders on our facilities because, by their action, they have declared themselves enemies of the state,” he stated.
Suspected armed bandits have invaded Kabba prison in Kogi, freeing their colleagues and other inmates while killing soldiers at the facility.
The attackers used explosives to blast the administrative block through which they accessed the facility.
