The move followed the outbreak of the disease in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Mr Ugwu said surveillance activities had been intensified at all points of entry.
The Enugu government has begun free malaria testing and treatment in no fewer than 527 health facilities across the 17 LGAs.
He said that Mr Mbah’s administration had implemented a digital record system in most of the health facilities.
He said that patients with symptoms of infectious diseases should be referred to facilities with capacity to manage them.
The facility was built under a special “Quick Impact Project” of the chief of the naval staff, Idi Abbas, in honour of Patrick Nwatu (Rtd).
Mr Ugwu attributed the achievement to “field commitment and inter-ministerial collaboration.”
Mr Ugwu stated this during the 2025 International Adolescent Health Week on Tuesday in Enugu.
“This action will serve as a warning, as Governor Peter Mbah will not compromise on the quality of healthcare delivery,” said the commissioner.
ONE Campaign has rated Enugu as the second highest performing state in primary healthcare service delivery in Nigeria from 2019 to 2021.
