The Yobe State Fire Service spokesperson confirmed to journalists in Damaturu that the fire had destroyed at least 30 shops.
Mr Jili said the disaster also displaced 20,399 persons, 100 others injured, destroyed 15,000 farmlands and property worth over N2.1 billion in the affected communities from April to date.
The building was under construction, but the ground floor was occupied and it was reported that people were shopping there when it collapsed.
“The building collapsed while additional construction of stairs was still ongoing,” NEMA said.
“They were court-martialled by the military authority before being transferred to the command for further investigation.”
