Hamas and Iran blamed Israel for the attack and vowed retaliation. Israel has not yet commented on Haniyeh’s death.
Mr Blinken, during a visit to Singapore, also reiterated the need for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
Two of the right-wing nationalist Israeli ministers have expressed satisfaction at the death of top Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh.
“The issue of prisoners can be negotiated after these two matters are achieved.’’
“We are open to discuss any arrangement or initiative that could end the (Israeli) aggression,” Mr Haniyeh stated.
More than 50 weapons were also confiscated, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).
“Support for the Palestinian struggle against occupation does not equate to support for Hamas,” South African President Cyril Ramaphosa’s spokesperson, Vincent Magwenya, said.
