NIS has blamed the scarcity of passport booklets on President Muhammadu Buhari’s regime and the Central Bank of Nigeria’s policy on forex.
The extension is to help clear the backlog of applications for international passports.
The NIS comptroller in the state, Ahmed Bagari, disclosed this on Monday in Dutse, the state capital.
“We’ve written to the president, and I’m very sure we will get approval to recruit about 5,000 more personnel into the NIS,” the NIS comptroller-general said.
The Comptroller–General of the Nigerian Immigration Service, Idris Jere, warned officers not to extort passport applicants.
The NIS called for renewed synergy between NIS and the Nigerian Navy to enhance effective marine border security in the state.
