“Available intelligence has indicated that ISWAP are training suicide bombers with a view to carryout deadly attacks on security agencies and vulnerable communities.”
The “gallant troops” recovered two AK 47 rifles, three magazines, one hand grenade and a teargas canister from the terrorists.
The theatre commander said those that surrendered comprised combatants, non-combatants, those conscripted against their wish and family members.
The army says ISWAP was confused and afraid following the massive surrender of terrorists to the Nigerian government.
The soldiers who had laid in wait, stumbled on the large number of bandits in the said area and engaged them in gun battle.
“The troops sustained the fire fight and successfully neutralised 12 terrorists, with several others fleeing with gun shot wounds,” army said.
