Tests detected the virus in 13 out of 20 samples.
Mr Osinbajo served as Nigeria’s vice-president from 2015 to 2023.
“Only nine countries out of 55 in Africa are malaria-free. Equatorial Guinea is on track to become the next,” Africa CDC chief said.
The Africa CDC director-general noted that Nigeria’s reforms align with continental priorities to reduce dependence on Official Development Assistance (ODA).
The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention has commended Germany’s one billion euros commitment to the Global Fund.
He said Africa must move from dependency to self-sufficiency by financing and leading its own health agenda.
The findings showed strong vaccine acceptance across all study locations, with demand already exceeding supply in Nigeria and Kenya.
Between January and August 2025, Africa recorded 220,242 cholera cases and 4,620 deaths, a 2.1 per cent case fatality rate.
“This framework represents a pivotal step in the Africa CDC’s mission to safeguard public health,” said the CDC chief.
He said Africa CDC was ramping up its response to mpox by expanding laboratory capacity, deploying rapid response teams, and intensifying vaccination campaigns.
