Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) has reported that the death toll from Africa’s recent monkeypox virus disease (mpox) outbreak has risen to 979
The minister said Rwanda, in collaboration with the Africa CDC and other partners, was working hard to contain the Marburg virus.
Mr Kaseya said combating the growing crisis would require an estimated $2 billion to $6 billion annually, a critical investment to address the impact of AMR in Africa.
“This declaration is not merely a formality, it is a clarion call to action,” he said.
This move followed WHO’s July 23, 2022, declaration of monkeypox as a public health emergency of international concern.
The Africa Health Workforce Investment Forum is underway in Windhoek, the capital of Namibia.
The Africa CDC was established in response to the West Africa Ebola outbreak in 2014.
