The Jigawa government has approved the recruitment of 1,124 health workers previously engaged as casual workers under its J-Health programme.
The scheme is designed to cultivate about 100,000 hectares during the dry season, and Jigawa is supporting the project with 40,000 hectares.

Officials in Bauchi, Dutse and Gombe said the measure was part of a comprehensive campaign against fire outbreaks during the harmattan.
He listed the items to include sewing and grinding machines, food and non-food items, mats, blankets, nets, cooking utensils, and detergents.
Jigawa State has recorded 91 suspected cases of diphtheria in 14 local government areas, with 10 deaths.
The vice president also assured that food security would receive serious attention from the government.
Mr Dansure said the approval would assist the governor in ensuring the smooth running of state affairs.
Some of the beneficiaries, Jamila Ahmad and Muhammad Abdullah, thanked the commission and government for the payment and promised to make good use of it.
“The board is up-to-date in the payment of entitlements to retirees, including those who died in active service,” the executive secretary said.
