“The girl was taken to the hospital for examination and treatment, while the suspect was immediately detained,” Mr Hundeyin said.
Mr Hundeyin stated that all the stolen phones and N6.5 million had been recovered and registered with the exhibit keeper.
Mr Hundeyin said the incident happened on Monday at 7:00 a.m. at the Bolar site in the Abule-Egba area of the state.
“The intelligence revealed that the syndicate specialises in buying and selling newborn babies, toddlers, as well as children of various ages,” said the police.
Mr Hundeyin said the suspects, both residents of Oniwaya in the Agege area of the state, were apprehended at 1:50 p.m. on Sunday.
Mr Hundeyin said it was not a case of armed robbery, but the attack was a reaction by the suspected motorcyclists to the seizure of their motorcycles.
Mr Hundeyin said the couple, aged 28 and 22, were arrested on Tuesday while attempting to sell the boy off.
“I stole the car and took it to my pastor that this is what God has done for me,” the man said.
The police said the two dismissed soldiers belonged to a robbery gang that allegedly specialised in snatching vehicles at gunpoint from motorists in Lagos.
