An early morning fire on Monday razed many perfumes, ladies’ wares, cosmetics and wig shops on Kano street near Onitsha main market in Anambra
Enugu fire service head Martin Agbili says 80 shops were affected in the chemical market explosion in Onitsha head bridge.
It was earlier reported that no fewer than four persons were confirmed dead, and about 20 sustained various degrees of injuries.
Goods worth millions of naira were destroyed at the popular Ọgbọ Ọgwụ Market in Onitsha.
The incident caused passengers, drivers, hawkers and others around the place to scamper for safety.
A fire service official said the cause of the fire outbreak was yet unknown as no trace to the cause was detected at the time of fighting the incident.
