He said the agency had seized 503 cartons of pregabalin capsules IP 300mg, amounting to 11 million doses, over the past two months.
Martins Iluyomade, the director of investigation and enforcement, said Goya oil sold in PET bottles was not licensed by NAFDAC.
The director noted that the seizure prevented 500,000 Nigerians from taking the counterfeit anti-malaria medicine.
The five-day operation was conducted by NAFDAC’s Investigation and Enforcement team at the cosmetics section of the market.
A truckload of counterfeit NAFDAC-regulated products was also intercepted by the team during the operation.
Mr Iluyomade stressed that all medicine dealers must be registered in the agency’s national database to ensure full traceability and accountability of pharmaceutical products.
The minister noted that the federal government had prioritised innovation and technology in its five critical areas to pull Nigerians out of poverty and lack.
The agency closed the Ogbo Ogwu and three adjoining markets from February 10 to March 7 to sanitise the medicine distribution system.
“Our team uncovered a large-scale production and distribution of fake and expired goods, including beverages, carbonated drinks, wines, spirits, and vegetable oils,” said NAFDAC.
