Somalia’s government-led forces have captured an al Shabaab stronghold on the Indian Ocean coast.
The toll is expected to rise in the country’s deadliest attack since a truck bombing at the same spot five years ago killed more than 500.
Former Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud was on Sunday re-elected as head of state of the East African country.
Witnesses said the former journalist escaped with slight injuries and is out of danger.
“The casualties were mostly recruits joining the Somali National Army (SNA).”
“TCN will continue to gradually restore supply on the other feeders as soon as KAEDCO indicates readiness to take supply.”
At least five others were injured during the mortar attack on the heavily fortified camp Halane.
The attacker targeted security officers who were inside a restaurant.
