Muyi Aina, the executive director of NPHCDA, acknowledged the vaccine donation by the American government on Tuesday in Abuja.
The commissioner said that 16 suspected cases in Anambra whose samples were taken returned negative.
WHO said the fund is needed for over six months (September 2024 to February 2025) to work with countries, partners and other stakeholders to tackle the outbreak of Mpox.
Mr Mills stressed that Nigeria is home to the U.S. largest health programming budget worldwide.
He said, “We have three suspected cases of mpox; two patients are in Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, and one is at the Edo State University Teaching Hospital, Auchi.”
The NCDC said in 2024 alone, Mpox was confirmed in 19 states and the FCT affecting 30 LGAs.
MPox, formerly known as monkeypox, is caused by a highly contagious and deadly monkeypox virus.
Gavi says it is monitoring the mpox situation and is currently engaging closely with countries, Africa CDC, WHO, etc., to support the response to mpox.
NCDC’s director general, Jide Idris, said the diseases pose significant health risks and underscore the need for coordinated national and regional responses.
The WHO said that the constitution of an emergency committee was to alert health authorities to a rise in cases.
