Nigerian lawmakers say they will investigate the N200 billion spent on the postponed 2023 census by the National Population Commission.
“For years, our nation has grappled with conflicting and unsubstantiated figures regarding this crisis.”
NPC chairman Nasir Kwarra has sought the support of the Nigerian Army to conduct a credible census in Nigeria.
“This, we will do by training our personnel as it was done during the polio eradication programme,” he said.
NPC has drummed support for women’s empowerment and gender equality as provided by the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
NPC has reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a credible and reliable population and housing census in 2023.
Mr Kwarra said this at the 2023 budget defence before the Senate Committee on National Identity Card and National Population Commission (NPC) in Abuja.
Mr Osinbajo also said the federal government has spent the sum of N21 billion in the mapping of the country into enumeration areas for the 2023 census.
Boss Mustapha, secretary to the government of the federation (SGF), says President Muhammadu Buhari is committed to improving the welfare of Nigerians.
“With this preparatory activity, we are matching on with confidence that the 2023 census will be accurate, reliable and credible.”
