The commissioner said Oyan Dam is no longer a threat to residents as the dam has been “fully discharged.”
They warned of more flood disasters unless the habit of erecting structures on waterways, disposing garbage in drains and violating town master plans were checked.
The flood had similarly affected the house of Mr Jonathan in 2012, but this year’s flood is a major disaster compared to 2012.
“But it is not the main reason we have floods in this country — 80 per cent of the floods in this country is water that we are blessed with from God from the sky,” he said.
The director-general noted that several states, including Ogun, had suffered widespread flood disasters in the past few weeks.
“The devastating floods hit seven of the 21 local government areas of the state,” said Deputy Governor Onyekachi Ibezim.
According to her, weather forecasts indicated that Anambra, Delta, Cross River, Rivers and Bayelsa are still at risk of experiencing floods until the end of November.
Sokoto has been among the states worst hit by floods in 2022, according to the federal government.
Flood rendered thousands of residents in the Toto local government area homeless and destroyed crops worth millions of naira.
The federal government says it has released relief materials, mainly food and non-food items, to flood victims in Anambra.
