The National Malaria Elimination Programme has applauded the Abia government for reducing malaria prevalence from 16.5 per cent in 2024 to 11.5 per cent in 2025.
Ms Aboh said young scientists were prioritised for the training drivers of innovation.
A beneficiary added that the programme came at the right time “when mosquitoes are everywhere”.
The Zamfara government has begun its 2025 mass distribution of Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention drugs, aiming to protect 1.2 million eligible children across the state.
World Malaria Day is observed every April 25 globally.
A total of 3,850,316 insecticide-treated nets were distributed to residents of the state between August 7 and August 21.
“As a government, we are not happy with the low percentage of people who, after collecting the nets, had yet to commence sleeping inside them.”
Mr Ehanire said that vaccines for malaria were still under review with the first one known to have reduced the risk of malaria by 40 per cent in children in Africa as of 2020.
One hundred bales of the nets were recovered from Kwami, while nine bales from Billiri. Each bale contains 50 nets.
