The cleric made the statement in a Facebook post on Friday.
“I suggest amnesty for IPOB as it was with the former militants in the Niger Delta. This will calm nerves and deter further problems,” said Mr Chukwu.
The minister, however, said that security was a collective responsibility for all Nigerians, urging all to put their differences aside and team up to fight it.
“I believe that as Nigerians if they are called upon by the government, the major cause of this problem (banditry) is poverty and ignorance.”
Mr Yerima, who introduced Sharia law in Zamfara in 1999, made this call in an interview with BBC Hausa on Saturday.
The Andoni LG boss urged politicians to rise above petty ambitions in the interest of peace.
The government said it would not do anything to jeopardise the peace in the Niger Delta.
“The least they need is the Ministry of Nomadic Affairs that will look into their affairs,” Mr Gumi stressed.
“A lot of them have shown interest, and I am hoping that maybe, by tomorrow, they will form themselves into different clusters in the value chain of several products.”
The self-appointed mediator for bandits said only religion can be used to pacify bandits to embrace peace.
