Present at the meeting were the heads of NSCDC, FRSC, Nigerian Army, Customs, NDLEA, SSS, Nigeria Correctional Service, among others.
Commissioner of Police in Cross River, Sule Balarabe, told reporters in Calabar that the exercise was meant to show the agencies’ preparedness for the 2023 general elections.
“As of Monday, December 15, we have 74,824 inmates in the correctional centres. Also in the correctional centres are 50,955 male and 1,223 female awaiting-trial persons.”
The interior minister said that there was no “insurgency stronghold” anymore in the country.
The regime said it now conducts periodic simulation exercises of attacks and responses in the most risky facilities.
“I can assure you, however, that we are on top of the situation, and in the shortest possible time, all these challenges will become a thing of the past,” the minister said.
The defendant is to be remanded until the judgement debt of N410,000 was duly paid.
