Seventy-seven oil and gas companies operating in Nigeria have debt obligations of N2.6 trillion to the federal government.
“We cannot be consuming more than 30 million to 40 million litres and it is obvious there is racketeering in the oil sector.”
Residents say the Petroleum Products Consumer Protection Agency has not been alive to its responsibilities.
The governor noted that the NNPC through the Frontier Exploration Division has injected a lot of resources to explore oil in the Kolmani area of the state.
As of Thursday evening, NNPC had up to 1.79 billion litres of petrol on the ground, continuing 24-hour loading.
The current fuel scarcity had been blamed on the importation of adulterated petrol.
The cargo was certified by the NMDPRA. Also, there was a joint inspection before the discharge, and the specification provided in the contract with NNPC met the Nigerian specification.
Operations of the four filling stations in Anambra were suspended over suspected delivery of adulterated fuel.
Only a few stations have so far complied with the FG directive to operate between 18 and 24 hours daily.
Rep Luke Onofiok noted that the matter was no longer an allegation following NNPC’s confessions and as such appropriate action should follow.
