The commander said the arrest demonstrated the Nigerian Navy’s resolve and commitment to reduce maritime-related crimes to the barest minimum.
Mr Fakrogha said that the boat was arrested on Tuesday at about 5.00am while approaching one of the oil wells located in the state.
The navy said recently, personnel of the navy ship arrested eight persons with 30,000 litres of suspected stolen crude oil.
“You heard about how criminals go about attacking military zones, killing personnel and carting away weapons, so we have to secure our base.”
One of the fishermen who was said to have jumped into the river during the attack to escape getting shot is yet to be found.
