This was announced in a statement by the FRSC spokesman, Olusegun Ogungbemide, on Wednesday.
Mr Mohammed recalled that the fatal multiple crash occurred as a result of excessive speed.
FRSC attributed the cause of the crash to brake failure, which led to a chain reaction of collisions involving the 18 vehicles.
He urged Nigerians to support FRSC’s efforts by obtaining genuine number plates.
Mr Mohammed ordered the immediate sanction of the sector commander, under whose jurisdiction the infraction occurred.
The FRSC has appealed to the Nigerian public to comply with traffic laws and regulations to reduce the high rate of crashes on the roads.
Mr Ogungbemide called on transporters to adhere to safety regulations and avoid the practice of mix loading.
Mr Mohammed stressed that the corps would continue to work tirelessly to rid the nation of criminal elements through swift response and proactive measures
Mr Ogungbemide said that 31 people were involved in the crash, while 10 were rescued with varying degrees of injury and three rescued unharmed.
He urged road users to contribute to improving safety on highways.
