The sector commander attributed the cause of the accident to speeding.
A witness, who spoke with journalists on Tuesday in Ore, said the incident occurred around 10:40 p.m. at Alafia Street, along the Ore-Benin Expressway.
The club said the “seriously injured” people were taken to a nearby hospital with the help of the Nigerian Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officers.
According to her, most drivers plying the route do not possess a valid driver’s licence.
The protesters, kicking against the scarcity of redesigned naira notes, locked down the expressway and put born-fires to disrupt the free flow of traffic.
FRSC unit commander in Ore said it was difficult to control traffic on the axis, urging motorists to use alternative routes.
Mr Alonge said the FRSC personnel included officers, marshals, and special marshals, who were to ensure the free flow of traffic along the highway.
The FRSC says the move is aimed at reducing road accidents necessitated by overspeeding.
Mr. Aladenika, however, warned that any erring motorist caught driving above the speed limit would be arrested and punished accordingly.
