The speaker said that Mr Onafeko’s tenure had elapsed, making the decision procedural rather than disciplinary.
The intervention followed protests staged last week by displaced Makoko residents at the assembly complex.
He stated that the governor is proposing a ₦4.237 trillion budget for the 2026 fiscal year.
The speaker encouraged leaders to engage constantly with residents.
“This law is long overdue and will modernise housing relationships in Lagos,” a lawmaker said.
The Lagos House of Assembly plans to establish a modern correctional service centre to help reduce congestion in federal correctional centres within the state.
Peoples Gazette learnt that Ms Meranda resigned from her position in the interest of unity in the assembly and the ruling All Progressives Congress in Lagos.
“All staff at the Assembly, LAHASCOM, and legislative aides are requested to work remotely until further notice,” said the memo.
She will be the first woman to serve in that role, after seven men previously held the position between October 2, 1979, when Oladosu Oshinowo became the first Speaker.
Mr Obasa was subsequently replaced by his deputy Lasbat Meranda.
