The Federal Road Safety Corps has deployed 1,797 personnel, including special marshals, to ensure a free traffic flow during the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
FRSC urged all road users to make safety a priority.
Mr Hamzat said the contributions of special marshals to the successes of the FRSC could not be overstated.
He said, “The increase in fatalities and crashes within the ember months is a result of human lawlessness.’’
The minister said that more than 200 illegal miners have been arrested and about 140 undergoing prosecution across the country.
“This is through effective patrol operations, prompt rescue service, improved vehicle administration and public enlightenment,” the FRSC unit commander said.
“These crashes involved 123 vehicles and 602 people.”
Mr Ugbebor said special marshals should desire to serve society voluntarily without expecting something in return.
He said the dismissed officer, whose name was undisclosed, was arrested after being caught in unprofessional conduct.
FRSC Corps Commander in Kogi said that the special patrol became imperative due to the recklessness of some motorists during festivities like Sallah.
