Mr Soyinka made the assertion when he paid a condolence visit to Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu on Friday.
Mr Olatunde said that the U.S. extended its heartfelt condolences to the people of the state and the Owo community.
“These are mad people; I’m not too sure they are human beings,” noted Mr Akeredolu. “They have lost their own humanity.”
The Nigerian vice president traveled to the southwestern state on a condolence visit to victims of Sunday’s deadly attack on a Catholic parish.
“We should all be reminded that the sixth of June made it exactly one year killer herdsmen killed at least over 20 people in Igangan.”
Mr Oyetola, in a statement by information commissioner Funke Egbemode, described the attack as barbaric, wicked and an unprovoked aggression against innocent people.
The Ondo governor declared that his administration would “not be deterred in responding appropriately to this dastardly act.”
The police also failed to arrest any suspects in the attack, which left about 50 killed and dozens wounded on Sunday morning.
The President says only fiends from the nether region could have conceived and carried out such dastardly act, adding that eternal sorrow awaits them.
A lawmaker said the tragic incident was engineered to send a message to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, whose policies have been deemed highly restrictive of nomadic pastoralists.
