The grid collapsed due to the partial system failure from the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), which continues to struggle for maintenance.
TCN spokesperson Ndidi Mbah disclosed in a statement on Friday that over 60 per cent of the power supply to Abuja was affected.
”The TCN apologises for the inconvenience this may cause, especially given the yuletide and end-of-the-year festivities,” the company said.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria has announced the restoration of electricity to most parts of Bayelsa following a four-month blackout.
“The growing trend of vandalism targeting transmission lines and towers…hindering the expansion and stability of the national grid,” said TCN.
Mr Tunji said the committee was set up to address the incessant grid collapses in the power sector.
TCN said it restored bulk power supply through its 330-kilovolt (kV) Ugwuaji-Apir transmission line I at 4:56 p.m. on Wednesday.
The correspondent who visited some of the charging centres reports that residents were trooping in their numbers to charge their phones.

To boost the capacity, TCN said it had upgraded from 150 MVA 330 kva 132 transformer in Benin to 300 MVA with similar upgrades in other substations.
