The Anambra government has warned that any student who fails to attend school on Mondays will face a one-week suspension.
The Ondo government has sanctioned two secondary school principals for collecting illegal charges and items from students in public schools.
Ms Chuma-Udeh said that the decision to ban the practice was intended to make textbooks reusable.

The Commissioner for Finance, Budget, and Economic Planning, Asiwaju Idris, disclosed this at a citizens’ sensitisation programme on Thursday in Lokoja.
“There are so many illegal schools and hospitals on the Plateau. The state is really suffering from that anomaly,” said the education commissioner.
He said the funds would be distributed directly to the accounts of affected schools.
According to Mr Mbah, some schools paraded unqualified teachers while cramping children in dilapidated structures that put their lives in danger.
He also directed school heads to promote the use of hand sanitisers with at least 60 per cent alcohol content as support to hand washing.
