The Kebbi government has recruited 391 teachers to enhance the delivery of quality education in the state.

The Commissioner for Education, Muhammed-Bande, said this while presenting letters of appointment to the teachers on Thursday in Birnin Kebbi.

She said the teachers recruited among whom were holders of Higher National Diplomas, degrees, and postgraduate qualifications would be deployed to post-basic schools across the state.

Ms Muhammad-Bande said the teacher recruitment committee received 18,000 applications and screened 4,000 applicants, while 1,000 of them scaled through the exercise.

She urged the teachers to dedicate themselves to duty and contribute their quota to the development of education in the state.

“A teacher in Kebbi is a king because the governor is a teacher who knows the value of teaching. Our governor assured us that this is the first trench of teacher-recruitment; others will follow soon,” she said.

Chairman of the Committee, Muhammad Garba-Bena, lauded Governor Nasir Idris for his support, which facilitated the smooth conduct of the exercise.

He said, “We are happy that this thing is happening during a time when the teacher is in control. This recruitment will continue until we have enough teachers in our schools. Therefore, I urge those candidates that were not successful during the exercise to be patient.’’

Also, Abubakar Magaji-Nayilwa enjoined the new teachers to give in their best for the development of education in the state and country at large.

One of the teachers, Malam Abdu, pledged their commitments towards uplifting the standard of education in the state.
