Mr Wahab appealed to the general public to be calm, adding that the state government was taking action on the incident.
“Thugs have invaded our Obingwa Local Government Area office in Abia,” INEC tweeted via its verified Twitter handle.
Onome Onovwakpoyeya, the police public relations officer in Ebonyi, who confirmed the incident, said the electoral materials were initially destroyed.
The thugs invaded the venue on Monday and chased away the officials of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“We also wish to commend security operatives who ensured the return of peace in the area,” APC stated.
“We have started an investigation because the attack happened in the night, and it is too early to give details now.”
The hoodlums, numbering about five, were said to have also molested some registrants.
Organised Labour had earlier raised alarm that the Kaduna government was recruiting thugs to disrupt their demonstration.
The incident occured on Saturday by Sharada Estate, police said.
