The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation has formally recognised the Sango Festival as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
The envoy also linked the festival to China’s Global Civilisation Initiative, which advocates mutual learning and respect for cultural diversity.
Foreign affairs minister Yusuf Tuggar said this on Monday during a meeting with Saint Lucia’s counterpart, Alva Romanus Baptiste, according to a statement.
The strategic alliance brings together government vision and private sector expertise to develop Nigeria’s creative industries, a statement said.
The federal government said the National Economic Council had approved the project, paving the way for the transformation of the creative industry.
Ms Musawa further said that the ministry’s partnership with NESG and UNESCO had been instrumental in ensuring a well-structured and inclusive review process.

Ms Musawa announced this on Saturday at a New Year gala night celebrating China-Nigeria friendship hosted by the China Cultural Centre in Abuja.
She said the development of policy and regulatory frameworks are part of plans for the advancement of the sectors.
