The agency claims that the arrest of motorists over faded vehicle number plates was not to extort them but ensure compliance with traffic rules.
He said the directorate’s operatives were ready to enforce stringent penalties on road offenders, especially those with unroadworthy vehicles.
“The ban is in line with the world’s best traffic regulation practices,” the VIO official stated.
Mr Bello said the agency had conducted a series of engagements with dispatch companies and riders before arriving at the August deadline.
Mr Bodinga said the review also includes the regulations of dispatch riders and restrictions of commercial tricycle operators within the city centre.
The Abuja VIO chief said that the crushing of impounded motorcycles would continue until the last commercial motorcycle operating within the FCT is crushed.
“once a vehicle is impounded in the FCT, it is gone because we will make sure we get a court forfeiture order.”
The official said that the Directorate will make sure that all who violate the law will be brought to justice.
