Tailor in court over alleged theft of household items worth N85,000

A tailor, Joel Edamisan, 27, on Wednesday, appeared before an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State, for allegedly stealing household items worth N85,000.
The defendant, whose address was not provided, is facing a charge of breaking in and stealing.
The Police Prosecutor, ASP Zedekiah Orogbemi told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offences on. October 30 2024.
Mr Orogbemi said that the offence was committed at 2.20 p.m. at Ikoya new site on Okitipupa-Ikoya road in Okitipupa magisterial district.
The prosecutor said that the defendant allegedly broke into the residence of one Taiwo Akimogun and stole a 12.5kg gas cylinder and tabletop gas cooker.
Other valuables stolen included a small Tiger generator and N20,000 cash, all totalling N85,000.
Mr Orogbemi added that the offences contravened Sections 411 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.
The Chief Magistrate, Philip Akinlosetu, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200, 000 and a surety in like sum.
He added that the surety, who must be resident within the court jurisdiction, must present evidence of payment of the past two year’s tax to the state government.
Mr Akinlosetu adjourned the case until February 17 for hearing.
