Taiwan and the United Kingdom have agreed to strengthen cooperation in advanced manufacturing, clean energy, digital trade and technology following high-level trade talks in London.

Taiwan’s Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs, Cynthia Kiang, co-chaired the 28th UK-Taiwan Trade Talks with Lord Sarwar, Minister of State in the UK’s Department for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade, on Friday.

Ms Kiang said Taiwan’s expertise in advanced manufacturing, system integration and supply chain management complemented the UK’s strengths in artificial intelligence, chip design and basic research.

Mr Sarwar said the discussions explored opportunities for bilateral cooperation in advanced manufacturing, clean energy and digital trade.

The officials also witnessed the signing of two memorandums of understanding.

One agreement was signed between the Export-Import Bank of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and UK Export Finance to promote cooperation on export financing.

“The U.K. is Taiwan’s third largest trade partner in Europe and in 2025 bilateral trade volume exceeded US$6.8 billion. The MOEA pledged to enhance bilateral supply chain resilience through public-private efforts,” the statement reads.

Vincent Yao, head of the Taipei Representative Office in the UK, and Ruth Bradley-Jones, representative at the British Office in Taipei, signed a UK-Taiwan Science, Innovation and Technology Arrangement.

The arrangement covers cooperation in satellite communications and semiconductor workforce development, according to Taiwan’s National Science and Technology Council.
