Tanzania’s vice president Emmanuel Nchimbi resigns
Tanzania’s Vice President Emmanuel Nchimbi has announced his resignation less than a year after he was sworn in.
Mr Nchimbi on Tuesday posted a copy of his resignation letter addressed to President Samia Suluhu Hassan on his Instagram page.
He stated, “I promised her that any day she feels she needs another Vice President, I will step down from this position.
“I am convinced beyond doubt that Her Excellency the President needs change, and therefore I have decided to fulfill my promise.”
His resignation will take effect on September 4, 2026.
Mr Nchimbi becomes a Tanzania’s first vice president to resign since the country assumed independence in 1964.
