Tate brothers face alleged death threats in U.S. prison ahead of UK extradition
Social media influencers Andrew and Tristan Tate have applied for release from federal custody in Miami, saying they face death threats while awaiting extradition to the United Kingdom on rape and other criminal charges.
The brothers’ lawyer, Joseph McBride, speaking after a federal hearing in Miami, alleged that their detention has exposed them to serious safety risks because they are accused of sex offences.
The 39-year-old and 37-year-old were arrested in Florida on July 18, after British authorities requested their extradition for charges of rape, assault, and facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation.
The brothers have since denied all charges against them.
U.S. prosecutors have opposed their release, claiming that their financial status, international connections, and ability to travel pose a huge flight risk.
The extradition process and a hearing for their bail application are scheduled for August 13.
The Tate brothers also face separate criminal proceedings in Romania, where they denied allegations of rape, human trafficking and forming an organised criminal group.
