The Transmission Company of Nigeria says its Benin regional office recently conducted a clearance exercise to remove structures encroaching on its infrastructure.

According to TCN, the clearance exercise was carried out on the new Ihovbor–Ajaokuta 330 kilovolt transmission line in Ihovbor Community, Edo.

Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s spokeswoman, in a statement on Wednesday, said that the two-day operation was aimed at reclaiming TCN’s right of way along the transmission corridor.

”Ahead of the exercise, the company had organised sensitisation programmes to highlight the risks of encroachment on transmission lines, issued a three-month notice to the host community and provided compensation to affected persons.

”The clearance was conducted by a team from TCN’s corporate headquarters in Abuja, working with the property department. Traditional rulers, youth leaders, and other stakeholders were duly informed before the exercise commenced,” she said.

Ms Mbah also said that the exercise was necessary to protect lives and property while safeguarding critical power infrastructure along the transmission corridor.
