The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has unveiled a new Load and outage analytics platform designed to improve monitoring and management of the national grid.

The unveiling took place at TCN’s headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday and was attended by the company’s executives and staff.

The managing director, Sule Abdulaziz, commended the operations department for developing the software in-house, the company said in a statement.

Mr Abdulaziz, represented by Aminu Tahir, the general manager of programme coordination, emphasised that improved load management and supply-demand matching are critical to reducing outages, minimising losses, and strengthening grid stability.  

Presenting the platform’s technical features, the general manager of operations, Godwin Aguiyi, said the system was built on Streamlit and comprises 13 integrated modules.

According to him, the platform consolidates region, station, transformer and feeder data, allowing operators to analyse loads across the transmission network.

He said it also automates outage classification and reliability key performance indicator reports, reducing report generation time from days to minutes.

The platform also features role-based access, structured data uploads and audit trails aimed at strengthening accountability, TCN said.

Mr Aguiyi said the system provides feeder-level insights that can help identify inefficiencies and losses, including losses valued at more than ₦720 million recorded in July 2026 alone.

The platform also incorporates the fault attribution ratio, which TCN said would help establish responsibility between the transmission company and electricity distribution companies under their Service Level Agreement.

The company said future deployment of the platform would include monitoring of the transmission losses factor to support regulatory compliance and operational efficiency.

The executive director, Human Resources and Corporate Services, Abiodun Afolabi-Fadahunsi, reaffirmed management’s commitment to equipping engineers and system operators with tools to improve national grid stability.

The company said the system is also expected to reduce revenue losses and support TCN’s goal of becoming a data-driven transmission operator in Africa.
