Teenager arraigned for allegedly stealing grinding machines, burglary windows

The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 181(1)(d) and 302 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

A 19-year-old, Shuaibu Taofeek, was on Thursday arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for an alleged theft of grinding machines and burglary windows valued at N290,000.

Mr Taofeek, whose address was not provided, is facing a three-count charge bordering on stealing and breach of peace.

The prosecutor, Olubu Apata, told the court that the defendant committed the offences at about 8:00 a.m. at Dalimore Area in Ado-Ekiti.

He alleged that the defendant stole two grinding machines valued at N80,000 and some pieces of iron rods valued at N50,000, belonging to Sule John.

Mr Apata said that the defendant also stole four burglary windows valued at N160,000, belonging to Nureni Anifowose.

He said the total value of the items stolen by the defendant was N290,000.

According to him, the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace.

He said the offences contravened Sections 181(1)(d) and 302 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

The prosecutor urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the case file and assemble his witnesses.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The counsel to the defendant, Blessing Falaye, urged the court to grant him bail, assuring that he would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Taiwo Ajibade, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.

She adjourned the case until April 17 for hearing.
