Teenager arraigned for allegedly stealing laptop in Ekiti

A 16-year-old boy, Mubarak Aliu, was arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a laptop on Thursday.
The defendant, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a count charge of stealing.
The prosecutor, Inspector Olubu Apata, told the court that the defendant and one other now at large committed the offence on June 27 in Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendant and others now at large stole one HP laptop, valued at N418,000 belonging to one Jemilu Sanni.
Mr Apata said the offence contravened Section 302(1) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State 2021.
He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the case file and assemble his witnesses.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.
Counsel to the defendant, Gboyega Abiola, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Taiwo Ajibade, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
She adjourned the case until August 4 for hearing.
