On Wednesday, a teenager, Ahmed Musa, was docked in a Sharia court in Kano for stealing.

The police charged teenager with criminal trespass and theft.
Prosecution counsel Abdul Wada told the court that Babagana Burma of Danladi Nasidi Quarters, Kano, reported the matter at the Fagge Police Station, Kano on May 16.

Mr Wada said the defendant criminally trespassed into the complainant’s shop and stole “seven yards of plain material worth N10,500.”

The prosecutor told the court that three and a half yards of cloth were recovered from him when the defendant was arrested. The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

He said the offence contravened sections 120 and 131 of the Sharia Penal Code.

The judge, Ismail Muhammad-Ahmed, admitted the defendant to bail with one reliable surety who should be his relation.

Mr Muhammed-Ahmed adjourned the matter until May 30 for a summary trial.
