Teenager docked in Ekiti for attempted shoplifting

An 18-year-old Olalekan Toheeb, was on Wednesday arraigned at an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged shop breaking and attempt to steal.
Mr Toheeb, whose address was not given, is facing two-count charge of shop breaking and attempt to steal.
The police prosecutor, Insp. Johnson Okunade, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on January 16, at about 8:40 p.m. at Opposite School of Nursing in Ado-Ekiti.
Mr Okunade alleged that the defendant broke and entered into the furniture store of one Olajide Olatunde with intent to commit felony.
He alleged that the defendant attempted to steal from the store of the complainant.
According to him, the offence contravenes the Criminal Law of EKiti State, 2021.
He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the case file and assemble his witnesses.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.
Counsel to the defendant, Opeyemi Esan, urged the court to grant his client bail and promised that the defendant would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Titilayo Ola-Olorun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
She adjourned the case until January 26 for hearing.
