Teenager drowns in Kano pond

The Kano State Fire Service says 18-year-old Abdullahi Aminu drowned after falling into a pond at Kofar Gabas in Danbatta council area.
The director of Kano State Fire Service, Sani Anas, disclosed this in a statement signed by the service’s public relations officer, Saminu Abdullahi, on Wednesday in Kano.
Mr Abdullahi said that the incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon.
According to the statement, the station received a distress call from Danbatta Fire Station at about 3:28 p.m. from Aminu Lawan (father of the victim) that his son had drowned in the pond.
“Upon receiving the report, we immediately deployed our rescue team to the scene,” he said in the statement.
He said the victim was brought out of the pond dead.
The public relations officer said the cause of the incident is still under investigation.
He said the victim was later handed over to the secretary to the district head of Danbatta, Baba Ado Sarkin Bai.
Mr Abdullahi sympathised with the family of the deceased and urged residents to exercise caution around ponds and waterways, particularly during the rainy season.
