Tems co-writes Rihanna’s Lift Me Up for Marvel’s Black Panther sequel

Nigerian star Temilade Openiyi aka Tems has revealed that she cowrote Rihanna’s upcoming single “Lift Me Up” for Marvel’s Black Panther sequel “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”.
The ‘Lift Me Up’ which was written as a tribute to the extraordinary life and legacy of the Black Panther lead star Chadwick Boseman, who died from cancer in 2020 at the age of 43, was recorded in five countries and written by Rihanna, Tems, and Oscar winner Ludwig Göransson.
Speaking on the significant collaboration, Tems said:
“After speaking with Ryan and hearing his direction for the film and the song, I wanted to write something that portrays a warm embrace from all the people that I’ve lost in my life. I tried to imagine what it would feel like if I could sing to them now and express how much I miss them. Rihanna has been an inspiration to me so hearing her convey this song is a great honour.”
Tems’ other soundtrack “No Woman No Cry” – a cover of Bob Marley and the Wailers’ reggae song– was released in the official movie trailer.
The singers who were first spotted on the red carpet together at the Savage X Fenty show, in September 2021, will see their track released on Friday. and will be available on November 4 from Roc Nation Records/Def Jam Recordings Hollywood Records.
Music soundtrack album producers are Ryan Coogler, Ludwig Göransson, Archie Davis and Dave Jordan.
The “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ – Original Score, composed and produced by Ludwig Göransson, will be available on November 11 from Hollywood Records.
