Terrorists abduct students, teachers in Borno

An unspecified number of students were kidnapped after suspected Boko Haram terrorists stormed a school in Lassa town in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State on Monday.
Spokesperson for the state police command, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, said the attack happened around 9:00 a.m., noting that the terrorists shot sporadically before the abduction.
“There was an attack on Lassa today, around 9:00 to 9:30 in the morning, where students and teachers were abducted. As of now, the number of those abducted is unspecified. I only have preliminary details at the moment,” Mr Daso said.
The police spokesperson added that a joint team of police and military personnel had been mobilised to the area to rescue the victims.
“As we speak now, the Area Commander in Askira/Uba has mobilised troops comprising the police and the military who are now on the chase of the terrorists in the surrounding bushes to rescue the victims,” he added.
The latest incident came amid escalating terrorist attacks on several schools in the country.
Last month, terrorists invaded Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School in Esiele and Yawota communities in Oriire local council of Oyo state, kidnapping dozens of schoolchildren and teachers.
Despite protests by several groups, including the Nigeria Union of Teachers, the victims are still languishing in captivity.
