Rampaging terrorists raided a village in Zamfara State, killing about 38 people and abducting unspecified number of villagers including children and women.

The state police spokesperson, Yazid Abubakar, confirmed the incident to Peoples Gazette on Saturday.

“About 38 people were killed at Duste Dan Ajiya under Hanka Local Government, Zamfara. We don’t have the number of people abducted for now,” Mr Abubakar told The Gazette during a phone conversation.

The police spokesperson explained that though the command received a distress call on the incident, moving through the terrain delayed their arrival to the village.

“What happened was that to get to the village, Dutse Dan Ajiya, you must cross two rivers. When we got the distress call, we mobilised to go to the village. But, unfortunately, our vehicles got hooked on the road because of the terrain, so by the time we navigated the terrain and got there, the havoc has already been done,” Mr Abubakar explained.

Mr Abubakar said policemen were now on ground to restore normalcy in the community.

The incident followed rising terrorists’ attacks and killings across the country. Human rights organisation, Amnesty International, on Saturday decried the rising killings in the country, noting that President Bola Tinubu’s govt lacked effecting plan to combat insecurity.
