Seventy-five Muslims have been killed in the latest violent attack in Kwara. Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq disclosed in a statement that the innocent civilians were killed by Islamist extremists for rejecting their ideology.

The Kwara government, in a Facebook post on its official handle, announced that President Bola Tinubu had approved the immediate deployment of an army battalion to counter the attack. Mr Abdulrazaq announced this during a visit to Kaiama LGA on Wednesday night.

“Seventy-five local Muslims were massacred simply for refusing to surrender to extremists who preached a strange doctrine,” stated the Kwara government.

“The governor, who commiserated with the community, announced that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved immediate deployment of an army battalion to prosecute counter-offensives codenamed ‘Operation Savannah Shield’,” the Kwara government explained.

It commiserated with victims and relatives caught in the Woro and Nuku attacks.

“Kwara state Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq is saddened by the cowardly attack on civilians in Woro and Nuku communities of Kaiama Local Government Area. 

“The governor condemns the attack, which he says is a cowardly expression of frustration by terrorist cells following the ongoing counterterrorism campaigns in parts of the state and the successes so far recorded,” said a statement on Wednesday by Rafiu Ajakaye, the governor’s chief press secretary.

It noted that the attack was orchestrated “to distract security forces who have successfully hunted down several terrorist and kidnapping gangs across many parts of the state”.
