Christopher Nolan’s film The Odyssey remains the number one film in North America after earning about $87 million in its second consecutive weekend in theatres.

This is Christopher Nolan’s best second weekend ever, surpassing The Dark Knight, which grossed $75.1 million during its second weekend in 2008, with only a 30 per cent drop from its opening weekend, which was more than $100 million.

After two weekends, the film has grossed about $286.3 million domestically and $639.6 million worldwide.

The Odyssey also came in behind Deadpool and Wolverine as the second-best second weekend for an R-rated film in box office history.

The film was shot and screened exclusively on IMAX to provide audiences with a premium viewing experience, and since its release, it has generated about $140 million globally in ticket sales.

The Odyssey features a remarkable cast led by Matt Damon, alongside Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, and Jon Bernthal.

The movie is projected to gross over $1 billion worldwide based on its current trajectory, putting the director on track to be the third highest-grossing director behind Steven Speilburg and James Cameron.

The Odyssey is also set to face its biggest challenge next weekend with the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, as it remains on course to become one of the highest-grossing films this year.
