There is only one PDP; no faction, says Wike

Mr Wike stated, “That there is convention does not mean there will be no reconciliation. Everything has its own time.”

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has insisted that the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is not divided despite the crisis within the party.

Mr Wike argued that there is only one recognised leadership of the PDP backed by court rulings, adding that claims of factionalisation were untrue.

He spoke on Wednesday after inspecting ongoing and completed infrastructure projects in Abuja, noting that the party remains united ahead of its national convention.

“We have only one PDP, no faction,” Mr Wike told journalists.

He added, “I don’t know which camp you are talking about. There is only one PDP. Some individuals may not be happy, yes, but there is no faction.”

The minister noted that reconciliation efforts could still continue alongside preparations for the party’s convention, saying disagreements within the party didn’t amount to a split.

“That there is convention does not mean there will be no reconciliation. Everything has its own time,” he noted.

The protracted leadership tussle in the PDP worsened last week after a Court of Appeal judgment nullified the party’s November 15 and 16 national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, where Tanimu Turaki (SAN) emerged as national chairman.

The Turaki led faction is believed to be loyal to Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state.

Following the court case, Mr Wike-backed faction scheduled a parallel national convention for March 28 in Abuja and the party conducted a parallel ward, zonal and state congresses across the country.

Speaker further, Mr Wike during the inspection said the FCT Administration remain committed to monitoring projects to ensure quality delivery and timely completion.

“In our usual programme, we make sure we go round to see what the contractors are doing and the quality of jobs they will hand over,” he said.

He said that the bridge project near the Fire Service was nearing completion, with contractors assuring delivery within the next five months.

He stated, “From what we have seen, it is a very quality job. I commend the company.”

The minister also confirmed that the N5 road project handled by Julius Berger had been fully completed and scheduled for inauguration during President Bola Tinubu’s third anniversary.
