Thomas Muller becomes Bayern Munich’s all-time leading appearance maker in 2-0 win over Freiburg

Thomas Muller, Bayern Munich’s evergreen star, etched his name in the club’s history books with a decisive performance as he became their leading appearance maker.
Coming off the bench, the 34-year-old scored to help Bayern secure a 2-0 victory over SC Freiburg, continuing their dominance with 22 wins from their last 26 encounters against the Breisgau-Brasilianer.
Despite finishing third in last season’s Bundesliga, Bayern Munich’s home form remained exceptional, winning 14 of their 17 league games at the Allianz Arena. It was no surprise to see them control possession from the start, with Jamal Musiala’s dazzling dribbling causing Freiburg significant trouble.
The visitors’ defence, though initially holding firm, faced mounting pressure, including a crucial sliding intervention from Lukas Kubler to deny Musiala a tap-in and a fine save from Florian Muller to keep out Michael Olise.
Bayern’s breakthrough came just before halftime through a contentious penalty awarded after a VAR review for a handball. Harry Kane, the European Golden Shoe winner, calmly converted to give Bayern the lead, maintaining his perfect record from the spot.
The hosts continued to dominate, though a moment of defensive slack nearly allowed Freiburg back into the game when Patrick Osterhage’s deflected shot tested Manuel Neuer.
Vincent Kompany’s tactical adjustments saw Thomas Muller make his landmark 710th competitive appearance for Bayern. Muller marked the occasion with a superb goal, his 150th Bundesliga strike, showcasing his enduring quality.
Freiburg’s frustration was compounded when Lucas Holer missed a penalty in stoppage time, further sealing their fate. Bayern’s win maintained their perfect home league record against Freiburg, while new Freiburg boss Julian Schuster faced the reality of a challenging start to his tenure.
